Dear Members
I know that most of you will be aware by now that we have a new Steward who took up post at the end of January 2020.
Miles Murphy and his wife Andrea have moved into the flat with Harvey the dog and Buddy the cat. I am sure you will want to give all of them a very warm welcome.
Miles has previous experience in the hospitality industry and both he and Andrea have until recently been working at the Conservative Club in Market Harborough and thus they have a lot of valuable, relevant experience. The Committee is looking forward to working with Miles in order to provide you with the best the Club can offer and developing new ideas as well to attract new Members. Please encourage friends, family and neighbours to come along and find out what we offer. It’s easy enough to sign them in.
If you have any ideas about how we can develop the Club please let any of the Committee know. Equally if you are not happy with something – tell us and we will listen. We can’t promise to act all the time but we will discuss your comments.
Improvement will take time. Our new Steward needs to get to know the Club and the Members. He is keen to find out what you want so please talk to him. This next year will be an exciting one, Miles has a lot of ideas – please give him your support.
The Committee are now able to devote some time and attention on other important matters. It is our intention that the long neglected web site will be brought up to date. We have already had one meeting with our web-site manager so watch this space.
I would welcome more members to join the Committee and share the load and would urge all members to think seriously about giving up some time to help the Club. Please talk to me or Tony or any member of the Committee. We are a friendly bunch.
This newsletter is also part of our plan to ensure that members are better informed of what is going on in the Club. If you have any news you think should go in the Newsletter please contact the Club or email FAO Ruth Lockwood on info@newarkconservativeclub.org. Also, please look out for us on Face Book. Andrea Murphy is going to be looking after this on the Committee’s behalf.
I held an Open Forum in February. Members were able to raise various concerns including those about the car park being full on some days. There is no easy solution to this. A question was also raised about the price of certain functions. Miles was able to state that food and entertainment will be properly costed out on an event by event basis and priced accordingly.
I hope this year is going to be an exciting one for all of us. It will bring its challenges but with your support, and the continued hard work of the Club Committee and Steward I am optimistic that the Club will improve and develop.
Darren Willson, Chairman
Miles and Andrea Murphy
The Chairman and Committee are pleased to welcome Miles and Andrea to the Club. Miles is our new Steward. He has enjoyed a career of nearly 40 years in the hospitality trade. Most recently Miles was Steward at Market Harborough Conservative Club where he was ably assisted by Andrea. They handled events such as wedding breakfasts, funeral wakes and parties. With their help we hope that we can develop those events and more at our Club. If you are looking for a comfortable, welcoming venue with first class decor please come and talk to Tony Lawson, Secretary or Miles Murphy, Club Steward about your requirements.
