Dear Members,
Lovely to see you are returning to the Club and we welcome you back with open arms. The records show that 32 Members have decided not to renew their Membership in 2021, however we have also had a number of new Memberships.
WELCOME to recent new Members. They are Mr Michael Clark, Mr Chris and Mrs Florence Eglin, Ms Ann-Marie Seaston and Mr Martyn Glenville, Mr Anthony and Mrs Erica Browne and Mr Malcolm Mallard. I hope you will soon feel at home in the Club
I am also pleased to announce that our Steward and his wife have been made honorary Members of the Club. This is in acknowledgement of the unwavering commitment they have shown to the Club during the covid 19 pandemic and in recognition of the outstanding contribution they have both made to ensuring that the Club continues in business. There is no doubt that without them and their hard work we would have struggled during this period. Our sincere thanks to both of you.
Hopefully, on July 19th, most if not all of the covid restrictions will be lifted and this will make things a lot easier for Miles and his team.
Carol Jessop It is with sadness that I record the death of Mrs Carol Jessop. We send our condolences to Brian and family
Audrey Wade I am sure you will all wish to join me in sending condolences to Harry and family on the death of Audrey.
Malcolm Peet I regret to inform you of the death of Malcolm Peet. We send our condolences to Diane and family.
We enjoyed a number of events at the Club during June. The 12th June saw the Curry Night which was a great success with over 25 people attending. The curries were very tasty and the entertainment got everyone’s’ toes a’tapping. Ryan was outstanding on the keyboard and those who attended all became experts at “chair dancing”.
Miles’s first Afternoon Tea at the Club was a resounding success. Lots of sandwiches, pastries and lashings of cream all washed down with tea or coffee. It is to be hoped that Miles will repeat the occasion before too long. WARNING – this event will not improve the size of your waist line!
On the 26th June Louise Scott entertained us all with her lovely voice. Her programme was very varied with something in it for everyone to enjoy with songs from The Supremes, Abba
and Tina Turner. Once again, we were treated to one of Miles’s delicious buffets.
To sum up – June was a bonanza of live musical entertainment.
We are now moving into July which, just in case we get a question in the quiz!!, is the seventh month of the Gregorian calendar and was named after Julius Caesar in 44BC.

Newark Conservative Club Bowls Section
Sad news for the club as well as the bowls section. One of our top lady bowlers, Carol Jessop, died earlier in the month. The funeral took place on the 30th June. Rest in Peace Carol.
5 4 3 2 1 is going well and we have escaped the rain. Tony Lale has leapt into the lead on 53. 2nd is Richard Towning on 49 and 3rd is Ray Longstaff on 45. The league is going quite well. We lost to Southwell away and beat them at home. Got a hiding from Northern. Don’t forget if anyone wants to join us tell Miles and he will put you in touch with me
New bowlers are always welcome so if any members of the Cons Club would like to have a go, please come along on a Tuesday morning, 10am and have a social morning. Bowls are available but you do need flat shoes.
Tony Parker, Bowls Section Chairman
P.S. Miles and the Committee would like to let all bowlers and their guests know that they will be very welcome to come back to the Club for refreshment after play.
Darts – bring your darts along and have a game in the Snooker Room.
Dominoes – regrettably this activity will remain on hold until the covid rules allow
Ladies Night Update.
This group will possibly meet again for the first time since the pandemic in September. If there are any ladies who wish to join, please send your name and email address to dianeplumb@btinternet.com and you will be added to the distribution list. We hope to have an interesting programme in 2021/22 and you will be very welcome.

Job Vacancies
We are currently advertising for an Assistant Cook and more bar and waiting on staff. If you know of anyone who you think would be interested, please let them know and ask them to ring Miles on 07738 628668 for more information.
Cleaning – After careful consideration the Committee decided to approach local cleaning companies for quotes regarding the day to day cleaning of the premises. I am pleased to let you all know that we have engaged Dustbusters, a local cleaning company.
Electrical work
Electrical work within Belvedere is ongoing. To put it in layman’s terms it is proving extremely difficult to “track” the circuits and identify what supply is going where. As one piece of work is started it uncovers another anomaly. There is no question that this work is essential. The Committee are currently waiting for an estimate of the cost of producing a project plan which will help us “stage the work” in self-contained units and keep an eye on the cost.
As you are aware the Committee has a vacancy. If anyone feels that they have something to give to their Club in this way please let me know. We are a friendly group, and meetings are lively. All you need is a commitment to the Club, some free time and some ideas to enhance the product we offer to Members. Interested? Please do not hesitate to have a chat with me or Tony or any other Member of the Committee. Now is the time with the AGM imminent.
