Dear Members

It is my pleasure to introduce two new members to you this month. Welcome to Nick Rush and Marie Walls. I hope you both will enjoy your membership.

Our condolences go to the family and friends of Mr Hugh Kent- apologies for this belated notice – we have just been informed that Hugh passed away earlier in the year.

Committee business

I regret to inform you that Mark Carter has resigned from the Committee. Thank you Mark for your big contribution, not only in Committee meetings, but in other ways too. Mark regularly tested all the fire alarms as part of his Health and Safety role and cleaned all the snooker tables with Darren Willson. He will be a hard act to follow. If any member is interested in joining the Committee and would like to find out more about it please would they contact Tony (Club Secretary), Ruth (Chairwoman) or any member of the Committee. We are a friendly bunch and need YOUR help.

At Committee we have been considering how to encourage “the snooker players to make the most of their Club membership and try out what is going on outside the snooker room. You can sign in your partners, spouses and friends and bring them to join in all the fun with the entertainment evenings, bingo, race night etc. You will all be very welcome. If nothing takes your fancy – let the Committee know of any ideas you may have and they will be considered. Please email info@newarkconservativeclub.org or leave a signed note behind the bar. Happy snookering!.

Sadly we are bidding Noah a fond farewell this week. Noah has worked behind the bar for a long time now and is a familiar face to many of you. He started as a footloose bachelor and now has a young family of his own. He is quitting to be able to spend more time with them. Goodbye Noah and thank you for all your hard work – we wish you all the best for the future.

I need to give you all advance warning that Andrea and Miles will be on annual leave from 30th August until the 14th September inclusive. The Committee are currently making cover arrangements for this period. It is envisaged that, for this period only, the lunch time menu will be reduced. The Club will be opening at 7.00 pm, on Sundays the 4th and 11th September with no Sunday dinners available on those days. Similarly breakfast will not be available on Saturdays the 3rd and 10th September. I will confirm precise arrangements in the next newsletter.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause members.

Past Events

2nd – 5th June The Jubilee weekend was very well supported by members and your feedback is very positive. Everyone reports that they enjoyed themselves. A huge Jubilee thank you to the “Jubilee team” – Kath, Sheila, Miles and Ian. These things don’t just happen and this group of people spent a lot of time planning and organising the event. Here are a few photos.

We were lucky with the weather for the “BBQ”. No rain! It was a well- attended event with about 50 people coming to enjoy the table skittles, hoopla, ten pin skittles, tombola and good company. Miles provided us with sausages, beefburgers and chicken kebabs. Andrea, Olivia and Charlotte kept us all well- watered. Thank you all four of you for making this event so successful.

I should take this opportunity to thank all those who donated the wonderful tombola prizes, from boxes of chocolates to beauty products, they were all well-received.

Saturday the 4th June we held an entertainment evening. This was our first real opportunity to enjoy the decorations that Kath and Tony, Martyn and Gaye Rollitt had put up in the Lounge. Wow! What a fantastic display of colour. Thank you to all of you particularly Gaye who hand-made all the “rosettes”

I hope you all agree that the decorations set the atmosphere for the evening, indeed all the celebratory events. There were flags and balloons on the table and Kath offered a crown to decorate and wear so we were all royal for the evening. Thank you Miles and Janet for the lovely buffet and to Andrea and Charlotte for looking after us so well.

And here it is! Confirmation that we did indeed have a Royal guest for the evening, although she was not very willing to be photographed. …………..

On the evening of Sunday 5thJune we had a game of Royal Quingo from Kath followed by a quiz from Ian. After Miles had served us all with free nibbles Ian called the Jubilee raffle. Over 20 winners were able to choose a bottle of something alcoholic. Winning numbers will be displayed on the notice board until all prizes have been claimed.

Thank you to all our Members at Newark Conservative Club. We celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in style.
